Powerful trends converging on the state may leave us by 2009 with a shortfall of 24,000 highly skilled knowledge workers in the areas of science, technology, engineering, and math.
The Technology Initiative serves as the foundation of a business-led collaborative effort to address this Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) Workforce Pipeline Challenge in Massachusetts.

Research confirms that the combination of Academic Preparation AND Awareness, Interest, and Motivation informs postsecondary choices.

Our expertise centers around raising the awareness, interest, and motivation of students for pursing careers in science, technology, engineering, and math.

The Technology Initiative programs and partnerships address key components of the pipeline problem.

Flagship programs:

Leadership Initiatives for Teaching and Technology (LIFT2)

High School STEM Internships

Women and Minorities in STEM

Partnerships:

Mass Biotechnology Council BioTeach Program

Our programs are explicitly designed for replication and scale up. They provide an "incubation laboratory" setting for program development and help inform discussion in the larger STEM policy arena.

Our goal over the next five years is to increase by 300% the number and diversity of students from the region at the middle and high school level in pursuit of scientific, engineering, and technical fields of study and careers. (See K-12 Student Pipeline)
