Communicating & Designing with Technology (2 credits/24 hrs) Saturday Sessions w/online discussions July-September (During externship)
Participants will expand their personal understanding of the culture of work and knowledge of STEM career paths and options, and learn how to design with visual communications technologies such as PowerPoint.
Creating a Web-based Learning Environment (2 credits/24 hrs) Online interactions/discussions plus three face-to-face sessions October –December
Participants will use available electronic/web technologies that lead to effective 21 st Century communication literacy. The course will emphasize collaboration and knowledge sharing as it focuses on exploring and developing a web-based learning environment using blogs, wikis, and podcasts as tools to enhance student communication and learning.
Developing Instructional Materials for the Classroom (3 credits/36 hrs) Online interactions/discussions plus two face-to-face sessions Course # 14-789 January–March
Engage students through project and inquiry-based instruction. Strengthen pedagogy and curriculum by focusing on teaching STEM content for understanding. Teachers will propose how technology can be appropriately integrated using backward design.
Understanding and Promoting STEM Careers (2 credits/24 hrs) Online interactions/discussions and Saturday series of guest speakers Course # 15.723 March-May
Participants will broaden their knowledge of STEM careers beyond their summer externship experience and learn how to integrate their content with “real world” experiences as a means for increasing student awareness and interest in pursuing STEM careers.
