Professional Training
Women and Minorities in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math develops model intervention programs and professional training that are informed by research and designed to provide middle school students with:
- Exposure to female and minority role models
- Information about careers in math and science
- Opportunities for out-of-school science and math activities
Students work with instructors who:
- Have high expectations of them
- Provide positive feedback
- Possess thorough knowledge of the subject
- Understand the gender and racial issues involved
- Accommodate learning style differences
- Encourage a high level of parental involvement
Training for program providers centers on the use of robotics and science as an exciting and effective way to teach applied math and science to middle school students.
Through our training, program providers:
- Learn how to use robotics and science kits to teach applied math and science
- Complete hands-on project assignments
- Explore their role as a visible role model for students
- Obtain knowledge about 21st Century career options in STEM
Training components for parents of minority and women students provide parents with:
